Assam: Seized Truck Set On Fire In Front Of Pulibor PS In Jorhat

JORHAT: The Jorhat police picked up a truck that was caught for allegedly transporting cattle without a vehicle permit on February 13.

However, the pick-up truck kept in Pulibor police station of Jorhat was later set ablaze by some unknown persons. On Sunday night the truck was seized by the police in relation to violation of transport rules and illegal transportation of cattle.

The vehicle was set on fire by unidentified individuals just in front of the Pulibor police station in Assam's Jorhat district. The pick-up truck was reportedly bearing registration number AS-03-AC-3475.

The police are currently undertaking an investigation to find out the unidentified person who came and burned the truck.

On informing about the incident, police stated they are suspicious that this work might be done by miscreants but this may not be true because they had no evidence in support of the statement.

Police are still clueless about who is the person behind such an act of setting the seized truck at the fire inside the police station and finding proof has become difficult because of no CCTV camera installed in the area.

On Sunday 13 February the consignment of ten cattle heads loaded in two trucks was seized by the Jorhat police officials. The police also arrested five individuals in their connection with the case and for being found along with the trucks.

The police later informed that these people were detained on the basis of source input regarding an illegal transport of cattle in different locations. The consignment was being moved from Santi Ashram in the Kokilamukh area of Jorhat to Ambagan of Nagaon district.

During the interrogation, the driver of the seized trucks said that at the time when they were loading the cattle heads, it was informed that the cows belonged to the Santi Ashram. They were also asserted this transportation of cows in Nagaon will not create legal problems.
